    Hi,

I am very, very new to this business so please bear with me. After registering a domain name, i put up a holding page(a service offered from hosting provider).
Within the last two weeks I put up a wordpress site.Everything going okay, so did a search in google a few days ago by just imputting the website name and it showed up in the search results. The only problem was that the search engine description was related to my hosting provider details and what i had written on the holding page myself.Google did'nt pick up the new keywords that i had imputted in at all.(I put the keywords in the header.php file).I have now been told that it takes time time for stuff to change on google .Is this true..?

Now i have another problem after doing another search.By just typing in website name again, the website seems to have vanished.Yet if i type the url in directly, the website show up.

I am not sure what is going on with that one and after verifying my site with google it seems to have have come up with keywords again relating to hosting provider and my old holding page.I have looked through all the files of wordpress and the theme files but cannot see any words/description relating to my hosting provider/or my holding page. Where is google picking up the old holding page/hosting provider details..?

Just wondering if anybody can tell me what i am doing wrong or what to check.

    Regards,
    d

Its a waiting game I am afraid, google will take some time to re-index especially if its found a holding page for the last few times.

Even once google does start visiting and 'downloading' your new pages it will take even more time to insert it in it live index.

Best thing - keep adding new pages for the next month - a few 400 word articles a day just in your mornings and see the results in a month.

there are quite a few things it could be, but bear in mind google can take a while to correctly index a site so give it another few weeks. the other thing could be that the holding page is still in th index due to a redirect being set up to your new page as a 302 redirect (search google for the meaning if you need to) rather than your new page being the index file for the site

in terms of the site vanishing - technically the site is still there, all that you're reporting is that google no longer shows it. google's a dynamic animal, always reassessing websites, changing its thoughts on whether to display the site or not and where it should stand. it is VERY common for sites to appear and disappear from search results in the first few months of a new site being up as google tries to work out whether your site will add any benefit to google's own users (ie those searching)

do a search for site:www.whateveryourdomainnameishere.co.uk if it shows panic over.

If it doesn't show you might want to check your privacy settings in wordpress as there is an option to block search engines.

Thanks guys i will wait and see then and just keep adding content.

I think the lesson here is do not put up a holding page. I think i have realised now that coming up with ideas ,putting up the site is the easy part and is just a small part to be played in this big game.

    Oh the long night ahead..!!

Try and build up a number of links in to your site from other sites too, this will help with faster indexing, and help with your ranking.

As mentioned, do a search for site:www.whateveryoursiteiscalled.com and make sure you aren't blocking search engines in wordpress! Will be a waste of time if you create a fantastic site that nobody will ever find.
