Welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't recommend buying any ebooks.
Your best bet is to stick around and read this forum which includes hundreds of posts offering useful advice and tips about search engine optimisation.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
I learnt quite a lot (about what not to do) from reading
Ken Evoy's Make Your Site Sell a few years ago (but it's
out of date now).
I think you could learn quite a lot from this forum,
albeit 'little bits here, little bits there'. I'd recommend
that you do a search for 'website promotion guide'(*)
or something similar, to learn the basics, and I've just bought
Mike Grehan's ebook which I'll be reading soon
- http://www.search-engine-book.co.uk/
As renegade implies, many on this forum don't bother
with ebooks (the information can get out of date), but I've
always learned something myself and I prefer to
learn a lot in a little time.
Horses for courses, etc.

(*) Note: I have a site that covers the basics of website
promotion that might just might appear if you do a search on
Google for these terms. Lol. (You will find some decent
info. on the other sites listed, too, however)
webmasterworld.com also has search engine optimisation discussions.
Note, you don't need to have optimised your site to submit it to the search engines. Optimisation is just the techniques used to get the best position possible in the search engines.
Submit your site for indexing by Google:
http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/addurl.html
and try and get other related sites to link to yours, using relevant keyphrases in the text that is hyperlinked.
It's a big topic, not the kind of thing you can learn overnight, so hang around!
