A couple of my sites only have the index page listed in google even though google and MSN seem to be able to crawl and list the whole site.

Any ideas why this is and any tips how I could get yahoo bot to visit my whole site.

I suggest that you check your meta-tags. It could be that Yahoo is slower to index the whole site, or it could be that the pages are thought to be too similar. You really need a unique title and description for each page, with the keyword list adjusted as well.

I have the same problem and I don't think it's as simple as meta tags as we have separate meta tags for each page.

I have tried to figure this one out for years!

Here's a challenge - the first person that contacts me with the reason CompareStorePrices.co.uk only has the home page in Yahoo will receive £500 as soon as we get more than 100 pages listed!

    Hello,

I do not want you raise hopes, but I may have the answer. I believe that this is a problem associated with redirects. The full details are on http://www.accordmarketing.com/tid/a...rects-seo.html.

Your website has a .htaccess file in the root directory. This is supposed to be used as instructions to handle re-directs, but on you site it looks like a standard html page. Please see www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/.htaccess. I suggest that you either delete the .htaccess file or replace it with one of the expected content.

By the way, I cannot believe how many pages are on your site! Google lists more than 2 million pages, and MSN has more than 3000. Making the changes above MAY result in a much more full indexing on Yahoo / All The Web.

Unfortunately we don't have a .htaccess file. What you are seeing is the result of our 404 handler.
Maybe we should create a valid .htaccess file?

I have the same problem with one of my sites. Only the index page is shown on yahoo while most of the pages are listed in google and msn (about 4000 page site). I emailed yahoo asking about this and I got this reply:

    ----------------

    Hello,

Thanks for writing the Yahoo! Search and Directory Support.

I understand that you have a question about why only the index page of
your site shows in Yahoo! Search.

It has been determined that your site may not comply with Yahoo!'s
    Content Policy Guidelines located at:

    http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearc...etions-05.html.

Below are some answers to common questions regarding this issue:

Q: What are some of the common reasons that a site may violate Yahoo!'s
    Content Policy Guidelines?

A: Yahoo!'s Content Policy Guidelines (link above) outline what we are
and are not looking for in pages that we index. Listed below are some
    of
the more common examples of how a site may violate these guidelines:

    - Cloaking (showing crawlers deceptive content about a site)
    - Massive domain interlinking
    - Use of affiliate programs without the addition of substantial unique content
    - Use of reciprocal link programs (aka "link farms")
    - Hidden text
    - Excessive keyword repetition

Q: If my site violates Yahoo!'s Content Policy Guidelines, can I still
use the Search Submit inclusion program?

A: All pages submitted to Search Submit are editorially reviewed. If a
site has is not in compliance with the content policy guidelines, it is
likely to be rejected by the Search Submit program.

Q: If my site violates Yahoo!'s Content Policy Guidelines, can I use
    the
    Yahoo! Directory Submit program?

A: The Yahoo! Directory and Yahoo! Search Index are different systems.
Inclusion or exclusion from one does not affect the other.

Q: How can I have my site re-reviewed?

A: Please review our content policy guidelines to make sure that your
site meets all of them. When you feel the site is ready, please
    complete
    the form located at:

    http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/ysearch/cgi_rereview

to request a re-review of your site. You may wish to include an
explanation of unique features on your site, or details of changes to
your site's content that may assist our editors in their evaluation.

Please allow several weeks for the review process, YST indexing, and a
complete refresh of the database before checking
    http://search.yahoo.com
to see if your site is listed in the Yahoo! Search Index. We do not
offer specifics detailing how an individual site is not in compliance
with our guidelines, but we will review your site individually. You
    will
not be receiving further notification regarding your request for a
second review, and we are not able to offer the option of another
    review.

Thank you for taking the time to make the Yahoo! Search Index better.

For answers to other questions you may have regarding Yahoo! Search,
    please see:

    Directory, please see:

    ------------

Out of that list that yahoo dont like, the affiliate links is the only thing that yahoo must want to list me for, even though I have hundreds of pages of unique content without affiliate links.

Same problem for OLBG. I have about 14 sites all quite similar in many ways and something like 10 are "one pagers" and 4 fully listed. Ive been doing all sorts of cross comparison to try to work out what it could be but so far have drawn a blank.

Ive always thought its some sort of "guidelines" beach like Eurohobos post explains but I dont feel Im doing anything that obviously ultra spammy and I havent found anything yet

Maybe this is my problem - I have a menu strcuture that enables user to get to almost any page on the site with the minimum number of clicks.
Seems like a strange reason not to list a site - for providing a clear and easy navigation path for your users!
Or have I misunderstood what this means?

I took that to mean interlinking between other domains, not the same domain.

erm dont mean to be rude like but what about ..

    - Use of affiliate programs without the addition of substantial unique content
    and maybe
    - Excessive keyword repetition ..... you are using loads of feeds and the pages seem far too long for me seem about 4 miles to get to the bottom

seems like youve got 2 million odd pages to get typin on

but it could be something completly different just adding my thoughts

Use of affiliate programs without the addition of substantial unique content
    Try these for starters:
    - 1000's of unique and unbiased product reviews written by our users with 100's more being added every week
    - Buyer's Guides
    - Manually matched price comparison rather than a simple list of products and vendors
    - Plenty of users telling us our search is one of the best out there in terms of being able to find exactly what they want
    - Price Alert service which automatically informs people if a product drops below a certain price

    Page Length
The pages are long for a reason - I hate having to page backwards and forwards on websites and prefer to scroll through a long list. Might be a personal thing and not everyones cup of tea but that's how I designed it.

Although I agree the keyword repetition may be a factor in Yahoo's eyes.

    Hello Again,

There have been several suggestions on the cause of just the home page being listed, but as suggested before, please create a valid .htaccess file. This is well worth a try.
