So basically to increase PageRank you need to engage in two activities:

1) Search Engine Optimisation
2) Linkbuilding

Keep chipping away at both activities and you PageRank will increase ... eventually.

I see this question on alot of forums I visit.
It does take time, while for that to happen, concentrate on giving your protential views what theyre looking for. ie: content. Things of interest to them. HElp them find what they want, or want to buy. If someone finds your site useful they'll be more likely to link to you, refer your link, mention it in other places (viral... I know).
I just think theres too much emphasis on SEO, while it is important. I think one should focus on the purpose of the website.
Ive seen more than a few sites where everylink on the side bar takes you to an adsense page. I mean a page that is just adsense ads. Stupid if you ask me.

1 way to increase page rank - get quality, relevant inbound links from relevant sites... If you want a quick fix, get yourself a copy of Arelis - This can provide a list of sites that link to your competitors. Drop the best sites an e-mail asking for a link. Also directory submissions are still worth your time, but I wouldn't pay for them.

The other way as suggested, is provide a unique service or tool that people will want to link to.

Hi,

1. Depending on your actual PR (4), you should get high PR inbound links (5,6,7...) relevant with your subject (PLUS: this are good .gov and .org ..I have access even if they are not relevant)
2. I will check your outbound links as well...(FINANCE ???)
3. There are google friendly directories (to be able to post your site you need to be a member.. VIP)
4. After some other things...content...keywords...metatags...robots.tx t
5. Wait for the next Google update and then work is done...

Create a great site, with useful, expert content and you will get links and therefore Pagerank.

If you dont wish to do the above then you will need to make sure your site structure is sound and also engage in link exchanges and link building campaigns. Start with 100% relevent websites and then start thinking outside of the box.

Write articles and submit them to online databases, for publishers to view and choose to publish in their newsletters, forums, blogs or on their websites.

A lot of people are hungry for free content; a well written article with a link to your website in the resource box will do you a lot of good with the search engines.

Not really im afraid im just so p***ed off with trying to get a decent ranking in google that i just don't bother anymore, im quite happy for affiliates just to list us and get top rankings and they get their commission.

We have spent more time and money trying to SEO, link build, one way links from the major underwear forums/blogs, tweak for google than we would of made back by getting a good ranking. So i've thrown in the towel on that one and just concentrate on yahoo and msn.

With google it's always 1 step forward and 2 steps back - at the moment all but 2 of our pages are in supplemental, they list pages that still have the .html suffix from 1 year ago (yes i could use google removal tool but i don't fancy typing in 600 odd urls).

PageRank hasn't been a directly important part of the algo for a while. Looks like you are / have been doing some reciprocal link exchanges. I'd forget that for Google, but it'll work fine for Yahoo / MSN
