    you use 301 redirects or .htaccess penalise you?
    its not simply that you use 301 redirects, its how you use them.

    also .htaccess is about has he effectively banned Gbot by mistake from certain directories?

    some good points getvisible.. can you explain your point on 301 redirects? I wasn't aware that there was a "negative" way which 301 redirects are used. We use 301 redirects on several of our sites that have a couple of URLs, I wasn't aware of a better way of doing it.

    The canonicalization fix in BD is going to make my life easier when it comes to http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com now.. Those .htaccess files were always a pain
