Google algo changes? - Traffic Dip
I notice that some of my sites hit by big daddy end of feb seem to have got even worse in past few days. Traffic is down to nearly nothing
Anyone else seen any changes in traffic?

It's been a bumpy couple of weeks, no specific dip today here though.

I saw some big changes in our AdSense about a week ago. One site that has been in the wilderness for about 6 months has suddenly regained top-spot in all our AdSense channels whereas the one that was performing best, has slipped slightly into about 3rd or 4th place. All in all, we're fractionally better off as a result... at the moment, at least.
renegade... there's a reply to you in that 'buy me a pint' thread, where I'm awaiting your response.

at the SES event Google said that Big Daddy would take another 2/3 months to fully implement. They also commented that it wasn't an algo change just an architecture one.

ok so my sites dumping from page one to page 4 accross the board is not big daddy but just luck of the draw.
Just hope big daddy when it finishes helps get more pages listed and trawled right with recent cache

same happened to me last year - down for months. Early January found what could have been construed as hidden text - corrected it - filed a reinclusion request and hey presto - back to the top within 2 weeks.dumping from page one to page 4 accross the board
Google is supposed to index pages not websites - so why would nearly every page be in the same position! unless it's some form of penalty - or a recent algo change which your site construction/seo breeches?Elaine - Children's Rooms and Allkids

Hi Mate. I currently don't have my notes from the SES with me, but trying to recall what Matt Cutts said... I think as part of the process to moving over to the new BigDaddy not all of the data centres will reflect the new architecture and they may be testing stuff on the other data centres. As far as I know Big Daddy is on 5 of them.
Have you checked your cached date on the pages that have dropped? Also have you looked at if there is a difference in the frequency that your sites are getting crawled? Is there a way for you to chart the two main ranges of Gbot crawls over say the last 6 weeks? If not just group the different types of Gbot as see if there is a trend.
I had a problem with a site I spammed the hell out of G a couple of years ago. I made a shed load of cash from it. It hadn't been crawled for a year. I cleaned up the site and did a reinclusion. Now its got a future PR6 and is getting crawled nicely.
Also do you have any 301 redirects or use .htaccess in anyway? Have you modified robots.txt, changed hosts, got a load of links recently?
At the moment there is a neat little whole in the algo that can be exploited regarding domain names, if you've done any changes recently to yours this could have been picked up in the radar.
Also, are these sites included in the betting, adult, gambling arenas? As there could be associated issues?Do you have products for review on my chocolate reviews or Easter eggs blog?s PM me.

What issues are there relating to adult content type sites? I'm looking after one of these at the minute and I've seen a pretty awful dip over the last 5 days or so!

So the question is has Big Daddy now been rolled out to all data centres or are we still in a state of flux?
Just saw this over at Webmaster World:
I don't like to get too involved in checking rankings, etc. during an update but this update has taken soooo long to rollout that it's not clear when/if it's finished and we can all take stock.Well its been over a week now, no change since the black wednesday of March 8th so can only assume this is BD finished and rolled out bar a little bit of tweaking that wont make any differance!

Just looking at the .ppt that I got from Google at SES (Authors Matt Cutts, Vanessa Fox, Aaron D'Souza), slide 4 says:
Bigdaddy- Infrastructure upgrade
- Lays the groundwork for future improvements
- Live at more than five data centers
- Will continue to roll out over the next month or so
My view is that they will be testing on BigDaddy and non-BigDaddy.
If you go through and look at the cached dates then you'll have a clue as to what's going on. Also think X-Files and the smoking dude then have a cuppa. In the process they're cleaning up the crap they have. It's like moving house, there's going to be some interuption. Just relax (he says, there's bloody livliehoods at stake!).Do you have products for review on my chocolate reviews or Easter eggs blog?s PM me.

Definitely not finished on google.co.uk - BD is switching on and off all the time - mostly off when I'm looking. I think there's only a couple more data centres to go, but those seem to be the ones used most from the UK.

Hi
Could I ask why the above is a cause for concern regarding Google? Also do you have any 301 redirects or use .htaccess in anyway? Have you modified robots.txt, changed hosts, got a load of links recently?
I can understand the links and the hosting, but why should the fact that
you use 301 redirects or .htaccess penalise you?
Steve
