Is CPM advertising on Google Adwords similar to CPC in the way the more you pay, the more you get?

Sounds like a silly question, but I mean am I going to receive more traffic if I pay a higher CPM? The campaign hasn't been activated yet deliberately, but no matter what I set my CPM at, it says "10,000 to 100,000", which isn't too useful.

Anybody care to shed some light on this? Thanks!

In my experience, you need to find the right balance/price to pay. Pay too much and your ads may be displayed all of the time-repeatedly in the 'bigger' format. Pay too little and they obviously won't be shown at all.

This just means your ads will be shown more often. This may mean the same surfer to a site might see 3, 4 or 5 etc of your ads. Watch the sites you put your ads on. I recently advertised on one site and spent half my daily budget in 2 hours - for 13 clicks.

Anybody care to shed some light on this? Thanks!

So it does increase the speed, as expected.

Think I'll try out a relatively low CPM to start and then build up if/when necessary.

I can empathise with that with my first CPM campaign on Google (on a forum too, which gave a truly lousy click through rate)

The figures given by Google are their estimated max available in total for the site (across all viewers in all countries) but in true Googlefudge they say

'impressions per day is an estimate of the total page views for those sites -- not the number of impressions your ad will receive. Your ad's total impressions will depend on your CPM pricing, the popularity of the site with other site-targeted and keyword-targeted advertisers, and other factors.'

Hey ho. More trial and error

Ah. I see. Thanks a lot for pointing that out.

Makes a huge difference. Shame they can't be bothered to spend thousands of pounds on an app that will estimate how many clickthroughs, impressions etc. I'll get, which will of course be "only based on network-wide averages...".

It's also a complete pain they give you no idea whatsoever you should be paying per CPM to get a good fill!

What's your experience been with this?
