It means everyone can read it, but only the owner can write to it. Go to your ftp program and highlight the file, then look for CHMOD (try right click) and change the value to 666

*** edit Pete's right only the owner can write to it (a script on the server) not the execute perm as I said.

and to set it you can either use an ftp client such as cute ftp right click the remote file you wish to change permissions on and choose CHMOD then enter 666.

Or you can go into cpanel (*if you have it) choose file manager browse to the file you want /htdocs/YourFile.php click the file name *not icon and choose change permissions in the right hand colum either enter 0666 in the box or select it with the ticks

Chmod 666 means read and write premission for everyone (owner, group and other).

Chmod 644 is read for everyone (owner, group and other) and write for just owner.

One advice with 666 and .php files: on some hosts 666 CHMOD on php files is not possible. I know it sounds crazy, but this happened with a few clients of mine.

So, if you experience some problems of this kind, ask your hosts about it. Maybe they will tell you to try changing .php to .html or .shtml
