Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows how using includes can effect SE rankings, positive/negative impact, I have a hunch its on the negative side, if Google see's a page that has 3/4 includes I guess it wont read the content particularly well or essentially will have to crawl 3/4include pages, thus scoring the actual page content pretty low...

I think you mean PHP /SSI includes – It does not matter which one as they are server side and google just sees the finished page, so it has no effect, good or bad, just an easy way to manage your website.

Includes are server side, so unless you screw up unmercifully, no SE should ever know you are using them. Indeed, I can think of one fairly well performing US based site that is almost nothing BUT SSI calls.

Bear in mind that an include can be dynamic, not just a block of text

Almost all my navigations are SSI - if the robots couldn't read them, none of my stuff would be indexed!

    Thanks everyone

"I think you mean PHP/SSI includes"

Sorry actually meant the older method of includes , ie insert, web component and included content.
