Yep, looks like an update going on.
Anyone else seeing a page rank update? Just noticed some changes.![]()

Yep,
The green bar is on the move![]()
New sites or old? There was a big update on new sites a fortnight ago.![]()
this seems to be a follow on from the update a couple of weeks ago - sites/pages which didn't update last time are updating this time, although Matt Cutts says that updates are now going to be every few weeks rather than few months and they've tweaked the algorithm which is effecting positiong in some sectors
I don't even have the toolbar installed. PR hasn't meant much for years
there was an update that started 2 weeks ago, this seems to be the second phase.
I am seeing some strange results today, hopefully they are just testing.![]()
Noticed a small jump.
How can Google tell if a link is paid for or one just recommend by the site?
This is based on just a simple text link not a banner etc
Deano - the strange results are probably due to the algo change which is ultimately going to have more impact than a pge rank update - they released the algo change at exactly the same time as the pr update though - the toolbar PR update doesn't have any influence on results pages, however the algorithm change will.

10k - My rankings have gone up across the board, but those same sites have dropped in PR. Thus making me think that the PR may just be being tweaked, tested, rolled back etc....
I will take rankings over PR everytime though.![]()
>> but try telling that to the people who'll pay you hard, cold cash to put a link on your highest PR pages.
Fair point. I'm not involved in link sales, so it's not an issue for me. As a link BUYER, I have to say I often buy links from low PR pages that are right on topic in preference to high PR links from more general pages. It's cheaper, and usually mor effective. I do recognise that I am far from the average customer, though.
If I DID get involved in link sales, then yes, I'd be pimping that little green bar for all it's worth - I'd rather have $100 / month for having "arranged" a PR7 on a page than $20 / month for having been slack and let it languish at 5, say. From the SEO point of view, which is my usual POV, PR per se hasn't mattered for a while
Deano - interesting because I've got a site that's jumped in pr and slipped in the serps, I assume the pr had jumped because of the link building I've been doing, and (now that the algo's changed) the serp positions have dropped for exactly the same reason! It's only a low volume site so not really sinificant but will certainly change the way I attract inbound links in the future!
