Is it just me, or are the adwords estimated click/position figures about as useful as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest?

My campaign has only been running a few days, so either adwords takes time to settle into position, or the estimated clicks/positions are just random numbers that google throw in to make the keyword tool seem smart.

Rememeber, these are based on searched across Google and its network of sites.

However, if you want to increase traffic to your site then you need to concentrate on achieving an increased Quality Score. Simply put, there must be a strong relationship between the keywords in your ad group, the ad text, the content on your site and the destination URL that penetrates through to your pages.

This is quiet easy. If you have keywords that are related to school shoes for example, then create 3 or 4 ads that have the phrase school shoes in the ad headline and at least once in the main ad. If you can create a page that is specific to shoes or school shoes, then this would go a long way to improve your Quality Score.

Rememeber not to duplicate ads, otherwise your ads will not be triggered by the keywords.

Download adwords editor - its free - and manage your campaign through this tool as it is much easier to copy and paste data and set up campaigns.

Either use Google Conversion Tracking or Google Analytics to establish which of your keywords are converting. Once you start getting this data, you can set you adtext to be specific to the keywords that are converting.

Once you have done this, you will start to see a significant improvement in the volume of traffic penetrating through to your site.

    Best of luck!

Yes, thats a pretty fair evaluation of them

I`ve done a lot of adwords PPC work, and have always found the figures to be totally useless, and bear no relation to what actually happens. Sometimes you get really odd things with them, like increasing the CPC and they tells you the estimated clicks will go down by a lot.

I find it easier just to totally ignore them. Once you`ve worked with adwords for a while, you get a natural feel for things, and don't need the figures anyway.

I have been with AdWords since the US launch and I don't recall the traffic estimator ever working correctly!

I just don't understand how Google work it all out.

I have a dating site running on there at the moment and here are a couple of examples of inconsistency.

men looking for women : Active, OK : Minimum bid, £0.15

sexy dates : Inactive for search, Minimum bid, £0.15 : OK, Minimum bid, £0.15

So both phrases are worth 15p but one's OK and the other's not??
My bids are set for 30p btw
