Has anyone noticed anything strange with yahoo recently?

I`m getting quite a lot of traffic from them, as i`m stuck in the google sandbox at the moment.

It started a couple of weeks ago, it indexed my new site nicely, and all the pages were quickly added to the index, and I was really pleased as I had some great rankings. Then, all of a sudden, it started dropping pages from the index, to the point that there was nothing in their index, even though their spider was constantly visiting. After a couple of days of no pages indexed, it then started adding the pages again, indexing the full site. A week later and the pages started dropping again, down to nothing, and now their being added again.

Launched another new site a couple of weeks ago, and exactly the same is happening. Its like they clean out the index every two weeks, but I haven't see this happen before?

I wrote to them, but all I got was a standard stock response that said nothing usefull.

Does anyone know whats going on? Its frustrating getting traffic, then losing it, then gaining it again, when it should be a steady level.

Also having wierd results for the orange web site, their search uses yahoo data, however my sites aren't dropped from that, even when yahoo returns nothing, and i`ve got far better rankings in that than on the yahoo site.

Not especially, but I haven't been looking

No such thing You just need more links, and maybe a dose of deduping

What you describe sounds like data being pushed out and rolled back. That happens sometimes, and if you have uneven visibility on multiple DCs, you may be seeing the effects of different DC datasets being given varying priorities.

The best response is to not worry about it too much, and keep working on promoting your site. It's likely it'll sort itself out, especially if you give it a nudge along

Sorry to hear that Andy, I know how frustrating it is!

Over the last couple of weeks things seem to have settled down, and the pages are staying in the index, and new pages being added as they should be.

The only thing thats happened my end is that about 50 links to the site from external sites have been created, and this seems to have persuaded yahoo that the site is worth keeping.

MSN has suddenly picked up the site, and is now supplying most of the traffic, so thats helped whilst this business with yahoo was going on. Hopefully i`ll get traffic from both from now on.

Its been interesting to me, as whilst I know a lot about SEO, its been years since I`ve actually worked on getting a new site indexed, and things seemed to have changed a bit. All my work for the last couple of years has been on improving ranks for existing sites, and whilst i`ve been doing well with this, the new sites have thrown me a bit
