I have developed a new site on a new domain, my old site was the same content but the new domain is a re-developed site. I therefore want to direct all traffic from my old domain to my new site. My SE positioning on my old domain was okay but nothing great. What would be the best method of changeover? The main reason is I dont want to loose out on any good SE positions that I did have.

A simple domain forward to the new site?
Placing a message on old site to tell of new one, keeping SE hits?
    Anything else?

Do a permanent 301 redirect from the old page on the old domain, to the new page on the new domain if possible, that should transfer your ranking over.

Alternatively a 301 from the old site to the new site if you can't do it on a page by page basis.

Thanks I wasnt familiar with that technique.
I will do an .htaccess 301 redirect as at http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php
