Hey Guys, hope that your all well and doing well!

Ive read loads of stuff about links, page rank blah blah blah, but cant seem to find answers to the below...

Could anyone give me their own experience or answers to the following???

Is there a minimum amout of time to wait between google indexing your site and then awarding a page rank (if everything else is equal, back links etc..)

What would be a way of achieving page rank 3 for example from a standing start only using high page rank site back links

Http://www.usedcarreview.net - Not a plug, as the site is just a big test on my part and is no where near completed.

Firstly, page rank means nothing in the big scheme of things. Don't pay any attention to it. To get indexed fast submit your site to a often checked directory like craigslist.org. Its free, instant and will atleast allows google to follow the url to your site on the bots next search. Expect your url to appear within maybe 3 days, albeit not in a high position. The rest is down to content and structure, plus quality in and outbound links. Good luck.

    Thanks Ian D!

Ok, but what if you want to be above a competitor for the same chosen keywords. Just have more inbound links? (anchor'd)

Doesnt the quality of those sites linking to you have an effect? I ask as what you replied seems to be against what I thought I knew to be correct - Unless of course Ive mis read your reply!

    Many thanks.

If you've got a spare 20 mins, read the below from seomoz - it give a basic round up of the most important factors you should be looking at

The guys are right, I would avoid thinking too much in terms of 'page rank'. Having said that, if your site is worthwhile it will obtain a page rank of 3 almost by default (if you do some basic link building).

I would submit to about 10 paid seo directories with page rank on the page per month for a period of 3 - 6 months. This should see you get a PR 3 no problem (and probably a 4).

Bear in mind the importance of anchor text - so add relevant anchor text to your page titles in the directories where possible.

One thing to note, is that although page rank is calculated often inside of google, the page rank is only recalculated every 3 months for the google toolbar etc.

So even if your site reached PR3, it will still only show as no pagerank in the google toolbar, until the next update is rolled out. Last one was done around a month ago, so next will be due in another couple of months.

You can see how many links (roughly) your site has got through the Google Webmaster Tools.

Google pagerank updates every few weeks these days, but to be honest, is still a waste of time to use as a measuring tool, but unfortunetly so many ppl still beleive it has value over other SEO methods, when really PR comes from good SEO work.

To get ahead of a competitor for the same keyword involves good content, quality links, plenty of accurate (none spam filed) titles, img tags etc etc. The list is long, the mentioned seomoz page is a good accurate read, although i disagree with some of the priorities. Just make sure that you don't just copy content from the competitor, that won't really do much good, be original, find a way of promoting what you do in a better/newer light, thats what will find you gaining higher positions.

PS - The majority of SEO to reach a decent level can be done yourself, don't believe everything said on SEO forums.
