just wondered what everyones thoughts were on the main domain for a site.

Just looking at developing a new site for something tv related, so ive bought the .com .co.uk and .tv

Normally for generic stuff id just buy the .com and .co.uk and have it on the .com as i've always felt its the stronger domain. But for this im not sure, should I use the .tv as the main domain and redirect the other two?

    Its my first .tv domain

Dan, depends, does the url include tv in the title? If so, i personally don't like repeated names in the title, i.e. tvsdirect .tv etc.

Also, whilst i cannot say for sure, i'm sure i've heard mention of .tv domains not pulling the same weight as .com's, but i cannot say for sure and personally use a .tv for my merchant business and it does alright...whether it would do better with a .com, i'm not sure, it was already taken!

Personally, i'd use the .com if your site focused on more than just the UK and redirect the rest, or .co.uk if its just UK and redirect towards that. I don't bother with .net's, and don't bother with .orgs etc. The only important ones to me unless its a serious business are .com and .co.uk

    Just my 2p's worth

I had a .tv for a product that was mostly sold on shopping channels and the .com and .co.uk had gone. I got it ahead of the .com for a while with a minimum of effort.

And all other things being equal I don't think they have as much weight as the other two, but it might make it more memorable for the right product.

cheers both, I recon the .com would be more powerful, but its only a UK focused site, and being my first .tv I feel compelled to use it

    Will see how it goes
