I've just been asked to remove my signature from one of the wedding forums that I go on. Fair cop gov', etc!

So when I remove the signature every indexed page has the signature removed also, I believe.

Bearing in mind it's only been going on for 2-3 weeks, have I been wasting my time (apart from the forum members that came looking, that is?)

If so, is it worth going back and dropping links into conversation? My thinking is that once they sussed what was going on they'd never bother deleting every thread that I've been active on?

Before anyone accuses me of being unethical - I never pretended to be anyone else and I never plugged my site - the signature was their for google and no one else.
Overall, I was a proactive and beneficial member of the forum.

Some of the plugging that does go on though is hillarious!!

And fao: rynert - I've never been on your forum, nor will I, before you ask.

    Thanks guys.

lol -I was just reading that and then you mentioned me

In our forum we welcome other businesses, even competing ones, as long as you provide sound help and advice, and your signature followed our rules, I would have no problem with you joining in.

To your question; I am not sure that a whole lot of value it is placed on signature links by Google - it knows how forums work and how easily they are spammed. If it's a trusted forum, which polices it's outbounds, then maybe a small value.

If they don't allow links in your signature, or in your posts - then you are not going to get real people going to your site either, so unless you are posting just for the enjoyment, you are wasting your time

I agree. You also have to remember that relevancy is king and if there's no relevancy on the thread, then there's very little value. having said that 'very little' is still more than zero!

I've looked at your forum and think its very good and well monitored. As you have helped me in the past I wouldn't dream of abusing it.

I suspected it was 'too easy' and of little value in terms of seo, although I have found that by being a useful participant I generated some decent traffic as a consequence. I've gone out of my way to help people and they tend to come looking for me without much prompting.
    Thanks

Yes, as I have found, there is some benefit but whether it's worth the time is debatable?

    Thanks
