    Hi

I am creating keyword rich URLs for SEO reasons useing a URL re-write tool, i am wanting to include key phases that customer may type into google (or other search engines) but the key phrases are generaly typed with a space in them for example "apple pie"

The question is what is the most search engine friendly way of adding a "space" to the url, a few examples are

    1/ ww.random.com/applepie
Dont include any space, google seems to undestand that it could mean apple pie somehow.

    2/ ww.random/apple_pie
Use a _ i dont think this is very good as i think goodl reads _ as a seperate charitor

    3/ ww.random.com/apple-pie
Use a - i think this works quite well

    4/ ww.random.com/apple%20pie
Use a HTML space as IE see it, dont know any thing about this method

know one i know can answer this question with any sort of authority i would appreciate any information you have.

    I have to pick one

I would use a hyphen to represent a space, as you can't go wrong with that.

Google is going to start treating underscores _ as spaces as well, but im not sure exactly when they start that.

Just use the hyphen which is the standard format accepted by the search engines and you won't have any problems.

I would think that would work OK with 'applepie' = apple pie and nothing else on earth.

    however

'apple-pie' = apple pie, apple and pie.

Depends how specific you want your result to be I suppose?
