In this case, I don't think books will help you much, you need to be looking for information online.

The reason for this is that the process of SEO is ever changing, as the search engines come up with new ways to define what a "good" site is, and to block spam sites. As a result, the info in a book would quickly go out of date.

There are huge numbers of SEO articles and Forums on the net, do a search in Google and you'll find loads that will help you. Just bear in mind that you can't take everything at face value. People have a lot of differing opinions as to what works and what doesn't, some people will say x is a winning forumla, whilst others will say it's rubbish. Again, you also have the problem of info going out of date.

It's a very difficult subject, as the Search Engines don't really want people to know what works, otherwise people could use it to make spam sites rank high. Because of this, theres no data that is 100% fact, it's all subjective based on peoples own opinions. You can get concepts from reading the many forums and articles on the net though, and then it's down to you to refine these and find what works for you.

    >> theres no data that is 100% fact, it's all subjective based on peoples own opinions.

Actually, that's not true - there are SEOs who do proper research / testing etc, but they tend not to talk about the results over much, at least not directly. Over time, you learn which people in the SEO firmament have ideas you listen to

    Yup. Even proper sites, occasionally

I would go with the suggestion of learning on the net. SEO techniques seem to change daily and keeping up with the engines changes is like a full time job!

    Good luck

SEO is changing all the time. As has been backed up on another thread by a number of people, although links help get extra traffic to a site, they are much less important in terms of ranking, and its possible to rank at number 1 with a single backlink.

links and content is what I said.......if their is an seo on this forum that has changed their fundamental approach here in 10 years I will be astonished...lets not oversell something that is simple.

if you play in the dark world then yes it changes lots as the tricks get found and stopped, but otherwise links and content have never changed

    Yes, mine.

lets not oversell something that is simple.

    I could not agree more...

[1] Register a domain name that relates to your keyword objective (not essential)

[2] Put as much text on this site as you can on either as many or as few pages as you want.

[3] Enusre the content is about at least the top 4 keywords you wish to promote

[4] Ensure the header section of each page is at least slightly different to any other

[4a] Ensure your page names include your keyword/phrases

[5] Use each of your top 4 keywords/phrases in at least one H1 tag

[6] Use each of your top 4 keywords/phrases in at least one H2 tag

[7] Use each of your top 4 keywords/phrases in at least 1 page's header section

[8] Use each of your top 4 keywords/in the text as text a handful of times

[7] Use each of your top 4 keywords/in the text as bold text a handful of times

[8] Use each of your top 4 keywords/in the text as a text link a handful of times, to either another page on your site that includes the keyword in bold and as text or...

[9] Use each of your top 4 keywords/in the text as a text link a handful of times, to another SITE that includes the keyword in bold and/OR as text (preferably in the page name of the destination site too.

[9a] If you link in this way to external sites, stuff like the BBC, google news etc and other highly "respected" sites is probably smarter than linking to debie does dallas .com

[10] Get relevant links to your index page without too much adoo (if you can be bothered)

[11] Get irelevant links to your index page without too much adoo if you like ([10] is better).

This is easier to achieve if your target keywords/phrases have less results listed in the SERPS.

But be sure to consider if your efforts will prove at least as fruitful as the cost of the time you spend on it.

I think that answers your question 99%. The other 1% would be about exactly HOW you create your inward links.

If you would like to read a longer version and don't mind lots of **expletive not removed**'s drop me a mail and I'll send you my free article on exactly this SEO subject with the easiest way to get quality links you can ever imagine.

See it's not that difficult... You're on your way to a dazzeling SEO career already...
