    Hi,

We are currently looking around for an XML sitemap generator so as to be able to submit a sitemap to Google Sitemaps and I just wanted to check whether anyone had any recommendations?

The sitemap generator would need to be able to be run on a daily basis and would need one that can crawl up to at least 10,000 pages and is unlimited use.

Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator has been suggested although from looking at their purchase version it would appear this is a php script which would run on our server however the site is built in aspx so do not think we could use this one.

    Hi Jon

If my memory serves me right then the sitemap generator you refer to needs to be installed on some php enabled hosting BUT it can create an xml sitemap for any remote site that you choose. I will dig out my copy of it later and double check.

You could try the on-screen 500 page generator, just to confirm it works!

The XML format for sitemaps is actually very simple, and if you generate your product pages dynamically, its very easy to create the code to product the sitemap automatically (and keep it updated). You just need to add a couple of entries manually for your static pages, which isn't too much work.

The format of the sitemap file can be seen at:

    sitemaps.org - Protocol

Which is the official sitemaps site supported by Google, Microsoft and Yahoo.

Is your site flat html or are you using a CMS like Wordpress/Joomla etc? The CMS's typically have a Google sitemap generator that will automatically refresh you sitemap every time new content is added.
