Hi, has anyone recieved an email for Lycos, to appear top of their search listings in return for a paid annual fee?

I think keywords are catagorised into bronze, silver and gold.

Anyone think it is worth it? Does anyone use Lycos these days?

Bought one for a competitive term and it has driven zero sales. Not worth it in my opinion even though it was a steal....

Not worth it at all, I paid for placement (ok, over 2 years ago) and it generated only a trickle of traffic and only a few sales. This was as a merchant and not an affiliate

A friend of mine bought his keywords and got almost no response, he didn't renew.

The question for me is does it pass on any search engine juice?

Do the pages ever have PR? As far as I can tell... no.

I have one of the better keywords going for AM which has only generated one sale in over 6 months. As for passing on 'search engine juice', my experience suggests not. No real natural serps from it and page directed to is still PR0 (for what that counts).

Thanks Bud. It has always been a tiny weeny bit tempting for that reason so it is good to get a confirmation.

Is it nofollowed? I guess if you really really wanted to you could build links to the lycos page... Probably not worth the effort though.

    Cheers

Tried it a while back, no sales generated at all.

Only search engines/directories worth being on are Google, Splut & Freeindex.co.uk. Google because thats where the money is, Splut because its great to get new sites listed in Google within a day or two & Free Index because it does generate a few sales plus its free :tup

Anything else is a waste of time esp anything with the words yell, thomson or scoot in the title
