Does anyone know the reason why some results in google have the search phrase in bold when others do not?
e.g. search google for 'toothbrush holder' toothbrush holder - Google Search
I can see that most of the results which have 'toothbrush holder' somewhere in the page title are displayed with 'toothbrush holder' in bold type
1st result is: Toothbrush Holders - John Lewis
But, go to 2nd page and 18th result is: Tooth Toothbrush Holder - Lazybone
this has the search phrase in the title, yet it is not in bold
Is there a reason for this?
I think t4xi-- is referring to the natural serps?
I can see the 18th result and can see that your not bolded for that result. I have experienced similar results on a few sites probably in the last 10 days and have started to wonder the same things.... its very strange indeed.

Yeah I have no idea either. Is anyone else seeing this on their results?
I have a few 'thin affiliate' sites and it seems to be happening with them more. Is there some kind of new 'rating' system in the google algorithm or maybe a new human review system that is making results bold or not?
I am watching it closely.

I am indeed referring to natural serps, hence why I posted it in the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) > Organic Google Search Optimisation category
btw, the site in 18th result is not mine. I was just using this as an example, but I have seen this with some of my pages
It's a mystery
Odd - I don't see that behaviour at all. I do see the lazybone result, but much higher, and with the term bolded.
It is certainly possible to break the "keyword in snippet" behaviour by using different search modifiers, but just going to the second page of results shouldn't do it.
You didn't do anything unusual did you? Just went to page 2, yes?
I'm seeing it all over the place on the search terms I monitor, and it is chopping and changing all the time. This began last week I think and seems to have gotten worse over the last few days.
It is also in the Australian SERPS and a broad range of sites have been affected. Most queer!

The search term is bolded in the SERPs
I think it's a software problem or glitch rather tahn indicative of anything significant
