OK, first question really is what DO you know how to do? It sounds like you've been chucked in at the deep end a bit, and you likely don't have the 12 - 18 months it'll take to become a good SEO, so you'll have to work with what you've got / know. An idea of the budget you have available would be helpful too, as having it available will greatly increase your options

join sports forums and use link as your signature, make some friends and they will click through to site.

Find a host who supports Fantastico and Wordpress. Then setting up a blog is a 1 click process. I know Clook do this, but theres plenty of others, I'm sure
