Hi, I have noticed some drops today on phrases that I have had for so long I considered them virtually mine. All of my sites have been hit and most phrases. I have looked at my competition and they seem to have been hit even worse. A few of the main phrases do not have any affitiate sites within the fist 20 results. Has google finally done the unthinkable and hit the affiliate sites? Is there a patten to this?

    Hi,

    Thanks for this post.

Yes, it seems like something major has gone on. Just looking into it now.

Hi, just noticed that the cached dates for most of the first two pages is no older than the 19th Oct. Not sure if this has any bearing.

It doesn't appear to be an affiliate only hit, as there are plenty of affiliate sites still ranking, and there are plenty of non-affiliate sites that have dropped.

I have noticed a few odd changes over the past week or so. Pages suddenly ranking well but only for an hour or two and then they disapear again. So now we have to try and work out what google wants now, content, backlinks, seo etc????

Yes this has now happened with lots of my sites / rankings also.

I wouldn't worry too much yet, as this has happened before and it settles down.

I feel that this is just a minor glitch to the algorythm and will right itself soon enough*

    *I bloody hope so anyway

I know I'm tempting fate but not of mine seem to have been affected. Can someone post an example of a page that's been hit?

Mark, it makes no difference if someone posts a page mate as it will be their own personal websites and most will be not very forth coming with posting them on here.

However, car finance - Google Search

the site Car finance UK has been number 1 for years, now it is number 15 !

Interesting number one result for car finance is it not (if you're seeing the same as me - Evans Halshaw). Just the one mention of finance on the whole homepage, nothing in the title tag etc.

Would suggest if it is a google algo change then it doesn't seem to be wholly successful! Not noticed problems myself yet though to be honest.

Yep, seeing the same result as you. I am hoping that it is a "test" algo change, as this type of thing has happened a few times before - does any else remember this ?

That one could be because carfinance.co.uk has a server problem though - click through from Google to that site and all you get is a "Service unavailable" message

No there are lots of other examples, that is just a major one I have noticed. The site was cached on 28th october with the correct site, so I doubt very much it is that anyway.
