Googlebot Crawl Question

Hi

I have a site that is nicely index and on average gets crawled about 100/200 pages a day. Now about 2 weeks ago I did some general maintenance, nothing special just cleaned up some of the ASP and redone some title and descriptions tags that were a bit long or out of date. Suddenly the crawl rate has increased to 2000/3000 pages and is not slowing down.

Are there any negatives I need to be aware of and what specifically are the positives, I am seeing no changes in the index?

Changes to the index may take a while to filter through - there's always a lag between information being gathered, and being used. The fact that your crawling has multiplied so hugely indicates that you should start to see an increase in rankings, and hopefully traffic, fairly soon

There are no negatives of such an increase, unless your sever struggles to handle this, in which case you can request the bot comes a little less frequently in your Webmaster control panel.

In terms of the indexing, what you see happening now will take weeks to start filtering through, but when it does you will notice a difference.

I too had a massive peak last week and am now starting to see improved rankings and new rankings, so it does take a few weeks.

I also beleive we are in the midst of a Google update, so fingers crossed for all here !
