In preparation for some development of my website I've updated the internal links such that:

    Code:
    http://www.tenuouslinks.co.uk/index.php?page=p3&sec_id=235&cat_id=30
    Has now become:

    Code:
    http://www.tenuouslinks.co.uk/music/cds
On the first day (not the biggest survey sample I know) traffic seems to have increased by 400 to 500%. Mainly from spiders n bots, or whatever, but still.

If only these spiderbots thingys would click on the adverts and buy stuff

    Congratulations!

Just goes to show that URL filenames do matter.

Perhaps it saw the unique pages now?

I had a similar thing happen when I fixed up the duplicate content issue on one of our sites. I definately think its a contributing factor that sometimes is not obvious when you first SEO your website.

    Congrats.

Remember the traffic doesn't come before the bots. The bots come before the traffic.

Now they've been, keep an eye out for when they update you in the SERP's.

    Interesting!

I have several URLs pointing at this site. Do you think that would be classed as duplicate content?

    E.g.

Tenuous Links - Who is Captain Technology ?

    and

Tenuous Links - Who is Captain Technology ?

    are esentially the same site

No it won't providing your old page url format 301 redirects to your new pages.

You can use .htaccess rewriting for this too!
