I've seen many websites that host their blogs on blog.mydomain.com - how does this affect SEO targetting for mydomain.com?

i.e. we all know well-written blogs and lots of unique content helps to draw the search engines in, but how does affect the rankings of mydomain.com?

Is it therefore better to use mydomain.com/blog so that any increase in page rank or increase in rankings directly benefits mydomain.com? From what I understand having a sub-domain does not affect rankings of your main domain...

    TIA, D

p.s. i'm not affiliated with mydomain.com i used it as an example!

Well, you won;t really benefit from any external links into your main website as they will be directly linked.

If you care doing it to get more visitors or to make Google spider your website better then go for it - use a dub-domain.

But if you are doing it to gain more anchor links then an independent and unrelated blog on it's won domain with it's own hosting / IP address will be a better idea.

blog.mydomain.com can you help you to increase internal link building. Good internal link structure has more importance in Google. Links pointing to your main pages form internal pages is beneficial in terms of SEO.
