Had a site which over the last couple of weeks went from 1-2 visitors a day to 100+ per day, over the weekend I made amendments to the meta title, keywords and description tags and today the site has completely disapeared from google for any keywords.

Anybody experienced this before or is it coincidence, the domain is approx 2 years old and has been live for the duration.

Should I leave as is and see what happens or revert my changes back to how it was?

    Dilema.

A case of bad timing I think? Not much you can do but just leave it and let it come back on it's own? I wouldn't change anything now - unless the original was a lot better?
A lot depends upon how often your site is crawled and, from your introduction, I'd guess it's not that often?

The main thing to remember is not to panic, we all have experienced this, and if your site is any good then it will settle in the place it deserves - eventually

Its a site based on affilistore. I should have known better and left alone while the traffic started to come in. I changed the keywords to append "buy", "compare", cheap" etc to the product name, added a bit more text to the meta description and changed the title tag slightly so in my mind its better than the original (my opinion of course).

Over the last couple of weeks the site has pretty much been crawled on a daily basis. The only other things I have done over the last few days was to implement google adsense on the product pages as part of the content under similar products and also resubmitted the sitemap within webmaster tools last night (not sure why I did this) and from my stats it would appear that google crawled within a couple of hours and the traffic stopped pretty much shortly afterwards.

Just in time for Valentines Day, bugger

Mate, exact same thing happened to me today. Site was page 2 in google then this evening I change the meta description and for the keyword it was ranking on page 2 it dropped off the face of google even though I left the keywords in the description, just added an extra scentence. Google can't be that sensitive surely?

    Any updates on yours buddy?

Sorry didn't track the thread and didn't see your post. After a couple of days the traffic resumed at similar levels. What did happen though is the number of pages indexed dropped considerably but over the last week this has increased and also seems to be catching up to the number of pages indexed before I made changes to the meta data. All good fun.

It could be a co-incidence that you've changed these tags at the same time as the "Vince" update occurred on Google & actually it's THAT that has affected your rankings rather than your changes.

I made no changes to my meta tags & yet my keyword rankings have been absolutely decimated over the last few weeks - 80% off them have gone completely & most have dropped 250+ places.

It's been a bad few weeks for me on Google - possible that the same has happened to you

Exactly the same thing has happened to me :td

On March 6th my UV's (from Google) as a result of my SERPs plummeted and are yet to recover. It's frustrating really as one minute to love the big G and the next you loathe it
