Linking to sites with the same ip address

Im about to launch a new site and i wanted to link from an older site to the new one, would i be penalised for doing this as they have the same ip address?

It's a contentious issue and even though I do it myself I would advise caution.
When I raised the issue a while ago the best advice I saw was if it was someone else's site would you link to it and if the answer is yes then you should be OK?

Doing it once or twice is not a problem. Doing it 1000 times is a problem. Search engines aren't complete gits

I was thinking of recyprical linking between the sites, but if there's a risk involved i wont.

As said above really

Dont overdo it or if the sites topic is not related in anyway then it prob best to avoid it

To be honest you would need to be linking hundreds of domains to get a penalty
