Thumbs up The Internet Advertising Bureau’s Affiliate Council section of the A4U Forum is live!

Welcome one and all to the Internet Advertising Bureau’s Affiliate Council forum area. The Affiliate Marketing Council exists to promote the development of affiliate marketing principles across the UK. Fostering a greater understanding of affiliate marketing within the IAB and via the bureau’s role as a champion of all aspects of Internet advertising.

We see this forum as a way of being able to engage and update the affiliate community in a format suitable to all those unable to attend our regular meetings. (Please do remember that there is an open invitation to any affiliate who wishes to attend, simply mail Dan@iabuk.net).

As well as being a means of getting our agenda and meeting minutes out to the wider affiliate world we hope this forum area will increase the understanding of what the Affiliate Marketing Council aims to achieve.

Given the vibrancy of the affiliates4u forum for debate, we hope you will use this area no differently; giving your voice to the many ideas that will be reported on and developed via this forum.

Here's to more debate

David Hall
Chair of the AMC

Right, I'll play devil's advocate

Could someone from the IAB explain whether they are a profit making organisation and why it costs so much to become a member?
Membership tiers

Thanks

The membership prices are outrageous!

I've been a member of the Chartered Society of Designers which involves degree level education, a panel interview and 3 products in production to get in yet that only costs a few hundred annually.

I'm also uncomfortable with Dr Foster posting with an Affiliate Window account. Whatever hat you wear elsewhere if you're going to post regularly as the chairman of the IAB you need another login account.

Not impressed.

My personal hope (as one who attends council meetings) is that we can air topics such as these and answer criticisms to increase the understanding of the IAB and the Affiliate Marketing Council. Lee has already given a more eloquent summary of the council than I could and I hope the Council's aims are quite clear.

The purpose of this forum is for affiliate / publisher representation in the workings of the council. It is recognised that Affiliate Membership of the IAB is not a reasonable expectation for affiliates and as such invitations to participate have been extended without such an expectation for some time now. It is not therefore the IAB's intention to profit by affiliates.

There will no doubt be more "official" clarifications later, however I wanted to answer this one quickly!

The IAB website is currently being redesigned and the new website (which will include an affiliate marketing section) will be published in 2008.

In the meantime, the minutes of this week's meeting will be published on the forum shortly.

<sarcasm on>Prepare for a massive download though for the list of affiliates and merchants who bothered to attend</sarcasm off>
