IAB Affiliate Marketing Council - 24th January

Hi all

There is an IAB Affiliate Marketing Council meeting on the 24th January 1500 – 1700 at the IAB offices.
The fist point is the election of a new chair. So far I have received three nominations for this position. They are:

Mark Kuhillow, MD, R.O.EYE
Peter Norwood, New Media Affiliates Manager, TUI UK
Ben Woods, MD, Vizeum

If there are any other people you would like to nominate (or nominate yourself) please do let me know as there is still time.

Agenda

1)Introductions

2)AMC Chair
(Initial presentations)
(Question and answer)
(Voting)
(Coronation!)

3)Purpose of the AMC
A discussion on the key areas that the council wish to cover this year

4)PR & Communications

As awlays there is an open invitation for your feedback on the agenda. If you are an affiliate/publisher/merchant the council would like to invite you to attend for free. Please let me know if you would like to attend.

Also following on from the last meeting several key issues were raised that will be implemented from the start of this year:

- Consistency of attendance. Please can members ensure that you have one nominated person who can attend all the meetings. More than one person from a company can attend, however it’s imperative that in order to move things forward that your one nominated person from the member company attends every session.
- One vote per member company
- You must attend three consecutive meetings before you can vote in a council meeting

Hopefully these simple rules will enable a smoother running of the council.

See you on the 24th

Dan

Do any of the nominees regularly engage in open dialogue with the forum?

I guess I would have hoped for candidates of more affiliate persuasion with possible (not only) suggestions like

Matthew Wood
Duncan Popham
Clarke Duncan
Helen Porter
Jess Luthi
Jason Dale
Fraser Edwards
Stephen Pratley

The above are just a few.

My personal take (and no this isn't me nominating myself) is that it should be someone who has taken the time to attend at least one meeting of the council - it seems odd to me that you can be nominated to stand for election as chairman without even being a member of the council.

Re: IAB Affiliate Marketing Council - 24th January

just my personal opinion but other than the a4u event where the IAB presented, there has not been a consistent communication about what the council is, how you join, whats the price, how can you support the council, objectives etc i mean where is the website for this. o.k they get their pr in the likes of NMA etc but this is where a good proportion of the community hangout and yet there are only a few posts relating to the council.

i have asked the question what does the role entail and noone has bothered to reply. i am keen to come along to the meeting on the 24th but can i? do i have to be a member etc etc

the whole industry is spread out and therefore a more digital approach to meetings may be necessary to talk to the masses.

setting up the council was never going to be easy but there must be someone at the IAB taking a lead on this and why are they not here drumming up support and answering questions.

Clearly an excellent list of wonderful people Paul! I'll be attending the council from here on in and look forward to participating loudly but I'm not sure if chair would be a position for me or any others on that list. A chair is fundamentally unbiased, and represents the opinion of the council, whilst ensuring that voices are clearly heard. I know I'd struggle with representing froth and nonsense, which to be frank, is one of the dangers of a council such as this.

I'm also acutely aware that I would definitely be serving self-interest to sit as chair (have you heard of our agency? - Our MD chairs the AMC!) which I'm uncomfortable with and would argue against those with a clear self interest.

I strongly concur with Keith that the chair should be a member of the council or come from within the IAB itself. I think that representation on the council is more of an issue than its chair and I hope to see other folk from Pauls list (and many others) attend the meeting on the 24th

Re: IAB Affiliate Marketing Council - 24th January

Hi all

Apologies for the delay in responding to the questions on this post. As I've stated before it's not always possible to respond straight away to questions raised here. Beleive me, its nothing to do with not bothering.

One of the reasons we need an independent chair for the council is to help with the communications between publishers, networks, agencies and merchants.

As an aside we run a dozen different sector councils and the role of those chairpeople is generally the same. Below is the JD for the role of an IAB council chair:

IAB Council Chairs

Our working groups provide IAB members with the opportunity to work together in a neutral arena to push growth, share good practice and success stories and directly input into IAB work by producing materials and staging events.

We look upon our Council Chairs as sector experts and we often approach them for advice about an industry standpoint or to ask them to speak at our online marketing seminars and other IAB/industry events.

The responsibilities of a Council Chair:

• Work with IAB Project Manager to suggest and scope out projects for the year
• Work with the IAB Project Manager to set agendas for each meeting
• Work with the IAB Project Manager to help galvanize the group to contribute resources and time towards Council projects and to meet project deadlines.
• Chair each meeting (approx every 4 weeks) and suggest a deputy if you can’t make a meeting.

IAB councils must be chaired by an IAB member.
