Hi everyone,
Here are the key actions from the session last week for those that missed the email. Watch this space for the postings on KEY ISSUES for us to tackle amongst publishers, agencies, networks and merchants. I'll post a thread in the next few days here.
Regards,
Ben

2008 Strategy & best practice
Core 2008 strategy was agreed as continuing to build the profile of industry and developing a set of best practice guidelines for Merchants, Publishers, Agencies and Networks.
It was agreed that ‘best practice’ case studies focusing on key issues and verticals would be the most appropriate model for us to collectively work towards.
To identify the key issues it was agreed that the A4U forum (IAB section) should be utilised to garner opinion and feedback on key issues from across the industry.
BW/ IAB will post 4 threads this week for each of the key industry categories, ie;
What are the key issues to focus on for best practice guidelines for;
Merchants
Publishers
Agencies
Networks
Please can regular users of the forum ensure these threads are self moderated? The idea is that they are to collect feedback from all corners of the industry – NOT as a place for arguments on what issues are right or wrong!
For non users of the forum or those that would rather send thoughts direct, please email the IAB directly;
dan@iabuk.net
Please, if you know interested parties that don’t use the forum, let them know of this initiative.
BW/ IAB will then review each of the threads and post a refined list of key issues after 10 days or so. These can then be discussed, agreed, and refined in the next session.
BW/ IAB will also work up a proposed template for the next session for the case studies to be entered into. We can then divide and conquer the work load!
Network get-together
Following a discussion focusing on Adware/ Spyware, it was felt a broader discussion was required amongst all networks (members of the IAB and non members) to agree on a collective perspective on the management of those ‘grey areas’ that surround some aspects of the affiliate space.
It was felt the IASH model was worth investigation, whereby networks could voluntarily sign up to a ‘best practice model’ in return for some form of accreditation.
There was some debate about the definition of ‘grey’, although there did appear to be consensus that there was certainly some ‘low hanging fruit’ in terms of things we should collectively look to stamp out. Perhaps we should start here?
BW/ IAB will be in touch with dates.
IAB actions
At the next session the IAB will present a summary of all the confirmed events throughout 2008 and we can collectively work out which we can get involved in.
Based on this, we can agree a ‘rota’ to ensure all parties can get involved.
PWC Adspend
BW/ IAB to send out details of data required for submission, and key dates (it seems there is not long on the 2007 analysis).
If you are a network not currently taking part in the adspend study and would like to submit please contact Nicki Lynas at PwC
nicki.lynas@uk.pwc.com.
The deadline is March 4th 18:00 so not long!
