  Barnes & Noble

We were considering joining the Barnes & Noble Program, until we read these Terms & Conditions in their FAQ section.

Has anyone else joined their program, if so how do they rate it?

Personally, I feel these restrictions are unacceptable, does anyone know if they waive these restrictions ?

"Can I link my site to Barnes & Noble.com and to other online booksellers at the same time?

No. It's better to send customers to one online bookstore at a time. It's easier for you and for your visitors. Besides, with all of the advantages to you of the Barnes & Noble.com Affiliate Network, why go anywhere else? (You can, of course, link to other online merchants who sell products that we don't, including books that we don't sell, such as non-English-language books.)

Can members of the Barnes & Noble.com Affiliate Network be a part of other book partnership programs?

No, this is an exclusive program. Our goal is to establish a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship that grows and develops over time, and we strive to meet your needs as the exclusive online bookselling partner of your web site. One exception is that you may partner with booksellers outside of the United States to sell foreign titles. "

I think I'd give these the fingers too.
I think when they start saying what you can and can't have on your site (apart from the obviouse, such as porn or illegal stuff) they should basically bog off.
I now see the importance of readin ghte T&C's. You could just imagine coming to pay day from them and them turning round and saying well you also link to Amazon so we're not gonna pay you.
I think these should be given a miss too!!!

Back in the days when Fiction-Net shifted to being a published-book based site (it was originally targeted to aspiring authors), we spent quite some time in deciding where to link all book reviews to. Talking some ago to to B&N, they were aware that the exclusivity clause was keeping good affiliates from partnering with them and the impression I got was that the clause would disappear. Obviously, it hasn't!

They only give you 5% anyway and of course you don't any commission on P&P. That's 50 cents on a $10 book. If the average conversion rate is one $10 book sale per two hundred people you send them, it means total a grand income of 50 cents per 200 customers = 0.25 cents/surfer.

At least the UK booksellers offer you more. E.g. WHSmith 10%, AlphabetStreet 15%/5%. Are there any US booksellers that offer 10% or more?
