  Q&A

I had various questions about BlackStar's SCP and here are the replies that Michael Thompson sent me in October 2000 (I think he's now left BlackStar). There seem to be a few questions about BlackStar, so I hope it helps you and other affiliates of theirs.

(1) Does a person have to make a purchase on their first click-through to Blackstar from my site?

No, they do not need to purchase anything but they do need to register.

(2) If they don't make a purchase on their first visit do they have to register before I can earn commission?

Yes, when they click-through to us for the first time they must register for them to be assigned to your site.

(3) Do you use cookies?

Yes, we do use cookies as it allows us to track the site they came from, their purchases and diary selection more efficiently.

(4) Would we receive commission on someone who has registered on the site previously then came through our site?

No, you only receive commission on the people registering from a click-through fom your site.

For what it's worth, I think BlackStar's is one of the best affiliate programs out there, not least because they don't rely on cookies to track lifetime residual income; cookies are often deleted as you know.

  Re: blackstar commission

Could someone clarify the difference between the two for this month

Orders £4,267.71
Billed £2,007.32

The commission we have received is 5% on the Billed Amount, so what is the billed amount all amount.

I am probably being plain stupid, but why isn't it 5% of the Orders ?

I would guess that it works the same as Amazon, ie. you get a % of the amount charged. It'll be different from the 'orders' total in view of out-of-stock and pre-release-orders items not yet charged for.
