We've just signed up as you have got some interesting products.

From an affiliate point of view, one thing which would make me a lot happier would be for you to lose the prominent telephone number on each page.

Hi Daniel, this type of product interests me very much, affiliates who know, me will know why and I am sure a few of them are interested also.

However, and I am only focusing on the stuff that's going to put me off. First the number already said so don't need to comment.

>We are offering 3% commission and a 30 day cookie, our current average order is £30.00

3% commission of £30 is £0.90p I am not getting excited here, 28 average sales before I can make payment level. 30-day cookie on a product that is looked in to anything up to a year (or more) in advance sounds like loads of free sales for you.

I personally think your being very mean on the commission level, your an independent program so should have none of the network overheads. I know you want to make as much profit as you can but 3% really not very good because like I have already said it looks like your going to benefit from all the additional stuff that will see you coin in cash from affiliates that you don't have to pay any commission on.

Right, now the positive side. You do offer something people would like to buy, you have a bigger range than most however facts are in your market the standard is 10% commission and that's from the biggest brand in the area Confetti.

Hi,

Thanks for all your feedback.

1. On your first point about the telephone number, we originally placed it there so customers felt secure there was someone to speak to, if they had any questions or needed advice, plus it makes people feel better than maybe giving card details to an unknown site who maybe gone tomorrow.

Our telephone orders only make up about 5-7% of our orders, the other 95% are from the website, if this worries affiliates.

I am happy to either move the telephone number or reduce the image size.

2. About the commission, I know that other sites in the UK vary their percentages, and the US is a lot higher than the UK. I have other sites made up of affiliate links etc and I am a member of TD and CJ etc.

I understand your point about the number of sales you would have to make etc to get paid out, so I am going to go away and see if the commission % can be increased, 10% seems a little high, we may be able to go to around 5%-7%.

Hopefully this would keep us all happy.

Thanks for now...

Hi Daniel, I am not trying to be horrible here by picking out stuff, I am very interested in this market as I have family members who are working in the area and are going to be huge and finding the right partner sites for them is very important to me.

What about cookie length, from your very own site you say "Planning for weddings can take well over a year, so brides are constantly looking for great bridal jewellery." so if you know people plan a wedding a year in advance and your only giving a 30 day cookie it sounds very much to me like your expecting affiliates to give you free sales.

The facts are with all the best intentions in the world and the best tracking, merchants will get a small percentage of free sales, as affiliates we know this shrinkage exists, however we balance the risk and the limited knowledge we have of a market to make up our mind on if we will promote a merchant, so you need to tip that balance so we do promote you by giving a little extra in the key areas.

If your saying you get 5%-7% on telephone orders then your affiliate partners are losing a sizable amount of money here and in addition we have additional stuff to worry about, like I said we expect a bit of loss age so you should in turn think a bit more about the sales and additional sales you would get from loads of affiliate partners. Think about all the additional sales you will get from the person who buys recommending to the rest of the wedding party, none of them will come visit via an affiliate link so ca ching your cashing in.

Anyway this not meant to be negative, it’s meant to help you build a better program. Also could you contact me clarke at ukinternetsites dot com (removed the spaces and add the @ & .) as like to speak with you some more.

Hello again,

What about cookie length, from your very own site you say "Planning for weddings can take well over a year, so brides are constantly looking for great bridal jewellery." so if you know people plan a wedding a year in advance and your only giving a 30 day cookie it sounds very much to me like your expecting affiliates to give you free sales.

What I really meant by this was that weddings don't always take place in the summer and purchases can occur all year round.

We have been running since April 2003, as far as we know all purchases are made within a week of visiting the site, if not immediately.

We have decided to stick to the 30 day cookie.

The commission has been increased to 6%.

The earnings threshold has been dropped to £20.

The prominient phone number has been removed.

I shall email you today at your address.

Thanks

Daniel

Slightly off topic here but I have to say it's refreshing to see a merchant and affiliates consulting and also action being taken to make an affiliate program viable and worthwhile for both parties.
