found the problem

I was using the amazon.com server
ie
http:// xml.amazon.com/ onca/xml2?t=scifind0b&dev-t=D1XJAGVXSC7IEP&KeywordSearch=NYPD+Blue&mode=dvd-uk&type=lite&page=1&sort=+salesrank&f=xml&locale=uk


Where I chould have been using

http:// xml.amazon.co.uk/ onca/xml2?t=scifind0b&dev-t=D1XJAGVXSC7IEP&KeywordSearch=NYPD+Blue&mode=dvd-uk&type=lite&page=1&sort=+salesrank&f=xml&locale=uk

Worked fine, I was using a customised version of a script suggested by amazon.
If anyone uses the ellyart script they should chect the
searchengine.class.php
file
