In Payment history, does the amount paid include or exclude VAT?

Obviously there is no VAT on books, so how does Amazon account for this in the payment with regards to DVDs, electrical items etc?

I have provided them with my VAT number but am unsure if they have automatically calculated this in my payment or do you have to invoice them for it?

    Thanks

Firstly, the fact that there is no VAT on books is irrelevant. VAT is applicable to commission payment as a whole. Amazon will pay you VAT at 17.5% on your full earnings.

The figures shown on the payment history are net of VAT and you should shortly receive an email from Amazon advising you of your earnings for the quarter and asking you to invoice them.
