With two races over the world famous Grand National fences, Becher Chase Day is the only meeting in Aintree's calendar, outside the Grand National meeting, to witness racing over the famous Grand National course. The totesport Grand Sefton Chase and the totesport Becher Chase are now established top class trials for the feature event in April, the prestigious John Smith¹s Grand National.

In 2004, the Grand Sefton was won by Forest Gunner, who went on to claim an admirable 5th place in the John Smith's Grand National itself, with the Becher Chase being won by the Ruby Walsh ridden Silver Birch, who prevailed in a thrilling finish with Just In Debt and Aintree favourite, Amberleigh House close behind. The 2005 raceday promises to deliver great racing action as part of the inaugural running of The North West Masters.
