Does anyone use Google Base for their marketing & does it help with links/SEO?

I was advised about a year ago, by a web design/SEO company, that they used Google Base to "great effect" in promoting their sites & making sales!

I set up a Google Base account, but to be honest, after setting up a couple of items on it, I left it alone until now, when I got a message saying they were changing t&c's.

I've gone on and updated the existing ads & added a couple of new ones; BUT, does Google Base actually DO anything? On the help pages it states: "Items you submit to Google Base might be found on Google properties like Google or Google Product Search" & the interesting element is the word "might"!

Does Google give credence to links from Base in their SERPS, or do the ads just possibly appear in the main index and/or Google Product Search (& does anyone use this?)?

It all seems very ambiguous & I'm not sure if I'm just wasting my time! Previous ads had some displays, but no clicks, so I'm not sure it's worth bothering with

Does anyone have a bit more of a clue whether Google Base is worth the effort or not?

Nah its a load of pants mate. Bit like Local business listings they look great but do you get any clicks....... nope

Also like local business listings base is full of every spam laden piece of crapola out there! Its a bit like a scrapyard for the 100,000,000,00 affiliates who just couldn't figure out how to get into the top 10.

Some times the top 3 results are from google products, however unless your the merchant selling the items, you'll have your google account closed, so affiliates beware!
