Come on, let's have it then! I'm about to pay for Google PPC whilst my new site (hopefully) gets ranked soon, but if there's an alternative...
Hi,
I get a lot of quality free traffic from Google.
Also, as a Google user, I always take a look at the ads
on the right hand side (even though I know they're ads).
This leads me to believe that Google AdWords work
(though I don't use it myself right now - don't pay
for any traffic, actually, apart from via Inktomi).
Having said that, I don't like relying so much on Google,
and my aim this year is to build a variety of quality
mailing lists and get subscribers to 1) start to trust me
more and 2) re-visit my sites on a regular basis.
So, quick answer: mailing list, Google, Google AdWords
Google Adwords
(these Should be the other way around, but google still baffles me monthly)
Then newsletter/recommend page. This may be last as it only generates a 'few' new members a week compared to the others, but the quality of customer is best. Personal recommendations cannot be beaten.
Word of mouth
followed by quality content = search engine results
well thought through affiliate promotion
overture/adword type advertising
Google Adwords
Like Carl, SEO still baffles although it's an endlessly fascinating subject and I find myself tinkering far too long rather than concentrating on writing quality content which I know is more important.
C'mon, give it up, we all want to know now...
Joe
