in my view there should be no SEO companies! They should all be doing SEO for themselves and making a fortune through affiliate marketing.
Do you have products for review on my chocolate reviews or Easter eggs blog?s PM me.

I see your logic and agree to an extent....but I just paid out to a SEO co for a project of mine....so by definition if there are more people like me, they are making a fortune from affiliate marketing!

I dont really do SEO anymore. I do standard things that we all do like putting the keywords in the title and alt tags etc, just enough for an SE to know what the page is about but I wouldnt say pages I've made lately are optimised. I dont bother worrying about keyword density and I spend a maximum of 20 seconds on meta tags maybe just pasting in 5 or so relevant keywords.

I followed googleguys advice and just built pages for the user and it seem to be working out okay. It gives me the same results as before, some pages do well and some dont, just like when I did SEO but now I dont spend countless hours checking the serps and worrying that another affiliate is one or two places above me. Its a futile game to try and be first on all your keywords because some will always go up while others go down. I certainly wouldnt pay someone to put keywords in my title and alt tags, seems a bit like paying someone to brush my teeth for me. Besides, if you pay someone else to do your SEO you dont know if theyre going to play by the rules or do something stupid that will ruin everything.

Exchanging links with sites that have a similar topic is the most important thing. Despite what some people belive it is perfectly ok to exchange links with new sites and sites that are PR0, soon enough they will have their own PR and pass it back to you. Just dont exchange links with too many PR0 sites or sites that are dodgy (bannerfarms, hidden text pages, spam).

US brits are definitely the best at SEO from what I see.

I think some seo companies can do a good job. Its probably not so relevant in this forum because most here know about good design. There are plenty of webmasters out there that still use javascript links etc. or design sites that are generally search engine unfriendly.

I don't think I agree that good seo companies should be making a mint from affiliate marketing. In my own mind a good affiliate site should have some good content on the sites particular subject. Only this way does it add to the user experience. If you don't have the knowledge to provide that content then its no good creating the site in the first place.

Of course I'm sure there are plenty who prove my theory wrong and have sites on tons of different subjects and earn a heap of money.
