I have been offered some freebies to give away to readers of my website.
I plan to offer them in a free draw to people who sign up to my mailing list

I am not sure how to go about it, any pointers on how to run a free draw would be welcome.

    Version 1

"All users who register for the newsletter before (insert date) will be entered in a prize draw to win (number of prizes) x (insert prize)"

After (insert date) pick (number of prizes) x winners, and contact winners for details.

Post on site - send out (insert prize) to (number of prizes) winners.

Have some rules to accomodate number of entries.

    -----

    Version 2

"Answer a question to enter the prize draw to to win (number of prizes) x (insert prize)"

Include either an opt in for newsletter or put in clear text that "by entering our competition you agree to join our mailing list. You have the option to unsubscribe at any time"

    Then as above for winners.

    Might help, might not

I use Jasons version 2 where theres a tick box asking if they want offers by email.

I get around 40% take up rate on this which is pretty good.

I did try it where by you had to join the list to be in the comp but the entries were not as good quality.

If you give a choice and someone says yes it means they are half interested in the list and possibly won't just delete it right away or unsubscribe as soon as the comp is finished.

Jason/ Carol thanks for the replies, I was hoping you would reply Jason!!

I also thinking of collecting extra info like post code. I am not registered for Data Protection ( something I keep meaning to do)
At moment I only collect emails and dont use them for anything but my own list.

Any pointers on info I collect from subscribers and data protection implications would be handy.

Would asking first name so I can personalise it mean DPA implications
