A few years ago no one would like to talk about traffic with Yahoo, only Google. Yahoo seemed to be out of the game.

Now Yahoo is coming back. And I personally met many disputes about Google and Yahoo and their traffic. They say Yahoo is better when you are looking for the people keen on music, video, games, fan clubs, posters and other showbiz/amusement staff. Google is said to give targeted traffic made of the people who look for 'serious' things in the Internet.

I am promoting Internet marketing tool and already made some things for Google. Should I try doing something huge for Yahoo, or the Yahoo traffic wouldn't work with Internet marketing tool?

Thanks for your tips, links, and personal info.

Yahoo delivers lower volumes, but usually better quality traffic. People do "competitive research" on Google, they buy on Yahoo. MSN is similar. Ask hits a high socio-economic bracket, but has very low volumes. Unless you specifically target the upper middle class, they are a minor player

I asked this cause a friend of mine was selling some SEO for a casino, he said Yahoo was perfect for it. But Internet marketing went bad.

And the general outlook of Yahoo is like 'it's your place to make some online clicking with funny stuff' and Google says in a very official tone 'come on, let's do some serious search here and whatever'.

Did you try the Yahoo vs Google yourself? Or it is some public info. If it was a public source, please give a link. I'd like to get into more details.

On a personal note as a web user and not as an affiliateer I have started using Yahoo more for my personal searches. Im sick of G tbh! I think there are alot of people getting like this. I prefer that to happen as we don't want to see one company control the search of the net. After all... as consumers we want choice!

Monk-i, you have a really big confidence with me (I saw your posts). One fair and straight question: Do you think the market is psychologically ready for getting rid of google? Is it a kind of trend?

Cause to tell the truth, I am kinda sick of google too. But this is just a feeling that grows inside after google makes some crazy google dance, or freezes for a few months an account with AdSense money, or new algo.

I think its more of a techno thing. Us web savvy people used to see Google as a thing whereby it was no frills and a sort of 'Clever Person' 'Geek' search engine which we used to show we knew what we were doing by knowing about it and using it. Oh look ive just booted up my web browser and G is the homepage and someone says what is that? In time we all passed it on saying oh you should use G because its so straight forward. Just a box to type in and hit search... Simple!

Now G I would say is starting to become a victim of its own success because now us 'Savvy' web users are one by one trickling away and using for instance Yahoo again. We all now crave information in one place and Y does provide alot on its home page in which you grab a flash of the news before you search. Perhaps that is the next logical step for G? Then they will lose that simplistic look and look rather like every other Search Engine.

I just know personally and a few others that have moved away from G. If the techno savvy people start to move then the other soon follow. Its only dribs and drabs moving away from G but it got the markings of it starting to spiral.

I also personally feel Y is now a bit more up to date and don't mess around with the results so much. It feels more current. G sandboxing and stuff is just annoying. I think you often can't automate everything like handling sp@m which G is trying to do. Things like that need to be done by a human or your just losing out on the new relevant sites? That is contradicting how up to date the search engine is.

I really could rant on and on and on but I can't be bothered Power to the consumers I say! Much like the way we should all get together to sort out this petrol pricing but thats another story!

Picture this: a big oil pump with Google company logo and kind of slogan 'We search everywhere'

Just a joke. Thanks for posting your opinion: the idea is very sound, and I feel very much the same way. Thanks.

Not sure where to find any up-to-date U.K. stats but I think we're much more Google-centric

And the most recent UK stats I can find:

Think MSN search were running tv ads back in March - still shows the big G way at the top of the pile though
