    Hi !

New Here. Is pixel advertising dead? I'm using Gpix from tufat.com - works great and all -but I can't seem to get a single pixel purchase. Any ideas for a good marketing approach to pixel websites? Need your tips.

    Thanks.

Yeah, delete the website, and use the hosting space to launch a proper website project.

Dont get me wrong pixels had their day, but why on earth would people look at those pixel sites? MDHP was good, and interesting, but after that its all just pixel wannabe this, pixel wannabe that.... why dont you just create some cool content, or tailor your website to a niche and maybe offer a few pixels for sale in the banner or something.

I dont mean to rant, and i apologise if it sounds that way - I welcome and enjoy reading news about website and the pixel projects were a cool idea at the time, i just think that you could spend your time and money on something more worthwhile. There is a kind of been there done that mentality with webmasters and users alike, so cut your loses.

If you did want to persue the pixel site dreams of alex tew, then you could do ppc, but i imagine there are like 1000 pixels site, and what with all of the milliondollar domains you will find it hard to get on the first 3 pages, also there is then how you will push it as something new, when i imagine it is just a script from another pixel site.

What is your website url, let me have a look and i will be more than happy to throw you some ideas. I am having a slow day at work, so anything to keep me off "deal or no deal" would be welcomed.

    Si

Amongst all the pixel crap there's actually some very good morphs to be spawned from the initial idea, some are using it as sponsorship for their current site and not as a site.

Others have evolved i.e. the tube station but I still feel he could build an entire site around that and do a lot more instead of just sitting there thinking it will take off, I have my own idea but that will take a bit of investment, there's onestadium also but their marketing team aren't all that otherwise they'd be in the papers by now... or are they, have they been?

I could get a few hundred to possibly sign up for free but there's no incentive for me to do so, he's posting on an affiliate website and wants a free link? he's having a bubble, sort us out and we'll get you your million. For the majority the only people that will make money out of buying pixels is a high traffic relevent domain that is buyable at end or a unique idea that will live and or has another use.

It depends what you're offering is, like I've already said the onestadium and tube map are excellent they just need a bit of proper marketing behind them. I wanted Bermondsey but I missed that as the interest wasn't there although I like the idea, they shoud've done it in flash, it wouldn't have cost much.

I recently saw a MDH-type site that included a flash game. At least it had some added value and people had a reason to visit.

Mind you it hadn't actually sold many pixels.....

Non of them actually sell pixels do they??

Fair enough is the pixel sites looked nice, then i might put my brand on there. A cool site would attract brands, but it is looks badly designed or cheap then who in their right mind would pay??

I like that football stadium one, and agree it just needs a little tweaking. I stand by the fact that i wont visit an advertising site unless:
    a) know what i am after
    b) think i know what i am after
    c) bored at work.

I dont think considering the latter that such sites will keep me entertained for more than 5 mins. How about adding football features, rss feeds, a forum, football highlights, reviews of football boots etc?? christ, there is loads you could do.

Also the pixel town could set up a shop where you could buy the pixel page as a poster or something.

They could also do a blog so that when i visit every day i can see what is happening with the site.

That you can have for free, any more advice will cost.....

Half a can of fanta and a bag of nuts.

The first site was successful because it got traffic - and advertisers like traffic.

It got traffic because it was unqiue, and a nice story and hence generated plenty of PR.

All these copycats seem to have missed the point - it was NOT the fact it was a pixel site that made it successful, it was the fact that it was unique and newsworthy. Thats the part you want to emulate not the pixel bit

"it was NOT the fact it was a pixel site that made it successful, it was the fact that it was unique and newsworthy"

    EXACTLY.. it was the concept

like everything that's generates a vibe and creates a craze, there's a time limit and then the window is closed.. everything that follows is chaff

    Hi mate,

Although I am the owner of The Virtual Underground, I would have to agree that pixel sites have had their day! Original/Quirky ideas work ! I've spent a lot of money on advertising in Time Out magazine, Metro newspaper and have seen an increase in hits but is hard work.

What a waste of a cracking Domain name... and I'm sure they're just affiliate links too!

    Go think again.
