Had a bit of success with a few sites over the past couple of years. Being a newbie to the Affiliate Marketing circle I soon realised that a lot people were saying getting a good google SEO ranking is the key to success.

Getting on the first page on google with some of my keywords seemed a near impossible task. However, on Yahoo, I was coming on the first page, often at number 1, and in some cases coming above some of the official sites (not just for a few days, but have been for the past few months). Hence, driving quite a lot of leads/sales via my sites. Woo hoo! to Ya Hoo!

Is it easier to get listed on yahoo? or have I just Seo'd my site with things which Yahoo likes more than google?

Just wondered, if anyone else has had the same success via Yahoo.

I've had similar experience to you voucherz.

A couple of my sites don't seem to rank at all in Google but are top three in Yahoo for good keywords. It does work the other way round for me as well though.

Despite my attempts, SEO is still a bit of a mystery to me!

Just do my best and see what happens, no idea why there are such major differences.

Well done on your position and sales though - hope they keep going for you.

Don't necessarily disagree Doug but my own sites that rank well on Yahoo have no links at all.

It's a constant mystery to me, although I'm not complaining!

Personally I'd stick to achieving top results in Google, the rest will follow but hold a very small volume of market searching!

Just as baffled as to why what I am doing works but it does.

I have top placements for the latest pages developed (a few months old now...maybe 6+)...sometimes 3 or 4 in the top 10. No inbound links either.

Total mystery to me but I am not complaining! :tup

Maybe your punters enjoy the fact knowing you have to fork out ££ for your leads :-)

I've had a quite a number of conversions via Yahoo! and pretty much happy with it. Google isnt far behind, but it's nice to know its worth submitting your site to multiple search engines. Certainly pays off.

I've had some great results from Yahoo for both natural and paid search - but it does depend on the sector, and even the merchant. Some stuff just does not seem to work.

My opinion is that many UK Yahoo users tend to be like my dad - gets his internet through BT Yahoo and uses his ISP email address. So he has BT Yahoo as his homepage. Many ISPs now have google search though but a few years back a few others used Yahoo.

So there you go. Target your sites and ads at my dad and you're laughing.....

Thats a nice angle to work from, and never really thought about it that way. Very true, I know quite a few "older" people on BT YAHOO BROADBAND who use the default yahoo/style search. Now I just need to think of things they'll be searching for and make an aff site.. hmm..
