    HI all,

I have just gone live with a new forum for dvd and video game bargains but I am having trouble attracting new members.

Can anybody give me some useful advice on how best to promote the forum and where?

    Any ideas greatfully accepted!!

Run a competition post on moneysavingexpert / com and in about half an hour you will have more members than you know what to do with :tup

Seriously a competition will generate interest and you can submit it to free competition sites and you will get quite a bit of traffic.

Its always the case once you have hooked some, more people with an interest will sign up.

    Thanks for the reply :tup

Excellent idea, and I have heard of Moneysaving expert. The question is what sort of competitions do they run/should I run??

They tend not to like self promotion and will usually delete any obvious advert.. so can be risky.

submit it to free competition sites
can work, but if you're expecting people to contribute to a site then not always the best option.

Personally I'd say concentrate on getting your site to a point where anyone who visits wants to join and be part of your community - and you may find joining in dvd blog discussions and other forums (without spamming) - i.e. being useful - will be a slower, but more productive way to develop.

That and getting your own domain/hosting sorted out.

Which are the good competition sites worth utilising and what kind of prizes do you need to offer ?
