Microsoft’s Bing search engine is emerging as a challenger to the dominance of Google after capturing a near-11 per cent share of the market in little more than three months.

The latest statistics from Nielsen, the research firm, show that Bing, which went live in June, is now the fastest-growing internet search engine in the United States. Its market share leapt to 10.7 per cent in August, from 9 per cent in July — a rise of more than 22 per cent. Source

what do you think of this news?

All I can say is the PPC traffic from UK Bing is rubbish so they have a long way to go in terms of quality here.

I think it's great news but not so exciting yet here in the UK.

Google has generally been kind to me over the years but I/we are at their mercy and it's never good when one company totally dominates and area of online life so go Bing - unless they don't like my sites ;-)

It's really shocking to think that Bing might compete against Google but hell look what happened to Yahoo.

It maybe exciting in the US but I have to follow where the traffic is and it's at Google! I have the same campaign built up in Yahoo and MSN and Google out performs them hands down. (I also get better account management at Google!)...At the end of the day the proof is in the pudding and MSN aren't even in the kitchen.

As great as it is to have bing in the mix, Google is not being brought down anytime soon. It's going to take an outside force to take them on. Yahoo and MSN just don't have what it takes.

Who wants Google to fail though....... Id rather the democratic way Google deals with the web than some large money/power hungry company like Microsoft taking a large stake

I think thats why no one is worried about Google's monopoly..... They cant be evil

THe only reason Bing got to 11% market share is because of the popular Club Bing. Where users just use Bing search engine to get freebies. It's only artificial folks.
