white labels, can they rank well?

hi

i have a white label of mobiles4everyone.com which is mobiles-compared.co.uk

my question is can my site ever rank well in the Search Engines becaues its duplicate content and my SEO reckons it wont be able to perform as well as i want it to

am i wasting my money having SEO done on that website because its a white label?

if yes, what alternatives do i have? i really like the site and the interface so i want to keep it

You would need to ensure that your site is not deemed as a 'dual serving advert' in Google's terms and conditions as these are not permitted to ensure that the customer is not served the (seemingly) same advert several times in one search result.

Although this can not automatically be detected by Google, if a rival affiliate complains about your site they can uphold this and prevent your ads from being shown. I understand this has some form of human input from an editor.

So in answer to your question; yes they can up to the point where someone complains and Google take down your ads. So if you do it I would suggest you have a back-up plan ready!

Yahoo and MSN do not appear to have any such restrictions as far as I know - has anyone else had their ads being taken down in any search engine for this reason and if so what were your experiences?

Just also to say I was referring to PPC in the above, not sure whether they can take down sites in the natural listings yet??!

solidsingh, if you want to make SEO changes to help your natural search engine ranking there are plenty of ways to customise your standard mobiles4everyone white label site...

1. Easy change - provide new meta tags for your home page. You can change the title, keywords and description. It's a very quick fix which probably won't have a massive effect but it could give you a small advantage over identical white label sites so is worth doing.

2. Blog - Manage your own blog and news. Rather than use the default blog you can manage your own blog, which is WordPress based and hosted on your white label site. This will allow you to create your own news items for your home page news and blog pages.

3. FTP access - Change parts of your site. I can set you up with FTP access for modifying the header and menu, you can add anything you want including extra pages. If you're unable to code your own but would like to make some minor changes please email me and I'll see what can be done.

4. Web interface - Within the next couple of months, we'll have a new user-friendly web interface that will let you modify some of your site content. This is designed for affiliates who have big ideas but no coding experience. You'll be able to change the meta tags, layout, colours, phone descriptions, default menu options and more. 5. Build your own - Can you host your own site? We have a script that allows you to include the comparison engine within your own site. You can show menus, lists of phones or just the results tables. It's very flexible and available as either a simple HTML iframe or a frameless php script. You can specify colours, fonts and a few layout options. 6. Datafeed - For complete flexibility use our datafeed. This is for the pros really but by completely designing your own site you'll have full control over SEO. Our datafeed has up to 100,000 deals and it powers several PR1 mobile phone sites. You can use as much or as little of our content as you wish.

A word of warning about Wordpress blogs....I set up my blog to make comments about what I was doing re web design & affiliate marketing, but have just had it suspended by Wordpress for breaking their terms & conditions!

Two queries to them have produced no reponse so far & all the entries I painstakingly added to the site appear to be lost for good

I'm asking them if they can give me access to the blog so that I can download it, with a view to hosting it on my own webspace instead, but they're just not interested

Beware spending time on building a Wordpress hosted blog, promoting an affiliate site, in case they do the same to you!!!

That's because you're using WordPress.com » Get a Free Blog Here - you need to be using WordPress › Blog Tool and Weblog Platform and hosting it yourself. It's fair enough really!

Wordpress is a great CMS successfully used by loads of affiliates in this here forum, and I can highly recommend it.

Thanks, I only picked up that they will not let you host a commercial blog on their servers by reading through the posts on the forum.....

I'd love to set the blog up on my own hosting, but cannot get access to what I've already done & am gutted that it looks like I've lost it all / If only I could get hold of the site for just an hour so that I don't have to start all over again
