Have any of you guys ever heard of Free SMS-Send SMS messages free to the UK ? It seems to send free SMS messages in the UK, but does anyone have any experience with them?
There are a number of reliable cheap options though. Usually you buy up front in blocks of messages eg 50,100,250,500 etc. Obviously the more you buy at once, the cheaper they become.
There are also different ways of sending, the interfaces range from very basic to more advances api's etc that you can use direct from your application.
The "free" services are usually pretty unreliable, and you can expect delays on text messages with some not arriving at all, so if you're running a proper service it is best to pay for the texts.
Incidentally, to show how much we get ripped off paying for text messages, a scientist worked out that its cheaper to send data from the Hubble telescope in space than it is to send a text message. The costs per Mb of Data from Hubble are from £8.85 - £85 per Mb, compared to a whopping £374 for 1Mb worth of text messages. When you think my server bandwidth cost 30p per Gb, it shows how much their making! Practically 100% profit, not bad for something that was invented by "accident".

Have you got the url's of some of the companies that have the API interface?
do you mean on a commercial level ( ie allow your visitors to send free texts or message your clients ) or just a normal person wanting to send a few free texts
One of the best options is to buy something like a
Mobile Action Bluetooth Dongle which will allow you to send SMS and also allow you to upload photos etc all at your normal rates,hope this helps
