Zak, fantastic post mate. Every affiliate manager out there should be using your post as a template for providing vital info to affiliates.

Graeme, (sorry to hijack thread) Products on Request looks really, really good. However for the non-technical ones amongst us is there any way of producing an "idiots" version?

Let me explain...By "idiots" version I mean something that's halfway between Products on Request and the pre-supplied templates made available by the merchants (such as the Freemans ones.

So if this service existed here are some of the questions it would ask after you choose the merchant you want to create a template for:

    Width
    Height
    Font/font size/font colour
    Background colour
    Table Border colour
    Number of products
Layout (i.e. 1,2,3 or 4 products across the table
Number of products featured in unit
Max number of characters per item description
Size of images (maybe give 3 choices)

    And that's it.

This would give the users who don't know the first thing about coding an option to build a nice simple content unit in around 30 seconds. I for one would love the ability to use something as simple as that.

    Cheers!

Hi, the pre-supplied templates are actually done by POR for free for the Merchants, they don't do them (well most don't, Zak's an exception however we do have to convert them to the system before going live) and we build it using the Products on Request system, they just supply us with the top 10 or whatever, and some Merchants even have it automated so we visit a URL each night and grab the new top 10 if they have one, it's very smart, keeps everything updated with no work and if a product is missing not to worry we can cope with this. This is why content units we have are not on other Networks when the same merchant is with other people.

Now what you’re asking for can be done, for example you can pick a pre-supplied template and modify this to your own design in a few mins, it's not hard at all, all you need is the dummy html layout and it can be up and running in a few mins.

The issue we found in the first version we released had about half the things you can do ended up not being documented as we found in testing most people could only get their head around what it was doing to a point, while we didn't remove these features (we plan to bring them out slowly once more people are using this) we simply did not talking about them, however that didn't keep it simple enough.

So we have a new Affiliate CP coming out this month, and we plan to make the whole Products On Request and the customising of the Advanced Content Units system flow a lot better, once this is complete the next stage is for us to make a flash demonstration of how to use the basics, once you see this you be like, it's that easy wow, and it can do so much. So hold out for that but in the mean time if you make a holder for where you like a content unit and tell us what products you want in it, we would make it for you, just send the HTML with dummy data such as image, price, name and so on, and we will do the rest for you.

This is the best of its type around, we simply need to get what it can do across much better than we are doing at present, I wrote the manual so I am to blame for that, however I know some people get it as I have seen whole sites made just with this system alone.

    Hello All,

Thanks for your kind words - it really is appreciated.

Thanks to Clarke and Graeme with their words on the content units. I've just had a quick play with the system for the first time and it is really straight forward - even I could do it and I am a complete none techy!!

So - between us and POR we can do the following with regards to content units....

    1) If you are a great techy/designer then please feel free to do your own using the POR system.

    2) If you are a good techy but not a designer then let us know and we'll put together a template for you, upload it on to POR and then you can create your own content unit through POR.

    3) If you don't feel comfortable using the content unit generator, then let us know and we'll design a content unit specific to your site.

Hopefully that should mean that all bases are covered!!!

As always give me a shout if there is ANYTHING we can do for you.

    Cheers,

    Zak.

I must say, thanks again for this wonderful thread, very useful and I have decided to use you as one of my main merchants for a new site thats in the works. Hopefully should be up online by the end of the week.

One question I have at the moment though, in regards to the 'branded discount images' you are offering, if one was to be given a unique discount code for ones site - Say if a customer didn't click one of my affiliate links on my site, but only used the discount code (after reaching your site via their own means), would I still be eligable for commision as they used my discount code, but didnt reach your site through one of my links? Hope that was clear, Monday morning - Still half asleep!

    Hi Kris,

    Thank you for your message.

To be honest I think this would be a little difficult.

In theory I would suggest it is possible (I'd need to check with my techy, but I would have tought so) for us to check voucher codes being used and attribute them affiliates. However, I don't then know how this could be cross referenced with orders on the affiliate networks.

The only way I can think of this being done is manually and unfortunately we won't have the time to do this (especially at Christmas).

What we could do however is design you a banner (should you wish) with a big "click here to get £5 off Christmas gifts" banner without any mention of Prezzybox which should hopefully alleviate the problem

    Cheers,

    Zak.

    Cheers chaps

It's great that you are planning to work with us. We are adding approximately another 100 products to the site in the next few weeks - including a lot of stocking fillers - so I'll keep you up to date with everything.

Also, if either of you want a gift voucher, landing page etc then give me a shout...

    Cheers,

    Zak.

Thanks for getting back to me, I only asked this as I had plans to do some print work and I was thinking about adding it to my leaflet. Not to worry though, I'm more than happy to just promote on the site! I might just word it differently - "Visit our site to get a free gift voucher to use at Prezzybox" or something to that effect.

I'll get in touch with you when my site is up online in regards to getting the gift voucher sorted (with a custom landing page if possible). Thanks again.

Here is a step by step guide to creating the Content I posted above, using Paid On Results advance product feed system Products On Request. However, the same method can be used for any of our Merchants. Before I start it worth noting the method of creating this Content will be made much more friendly and easy to use once our new interface launches

    1. Log into Paid On Results and click "Advanced Feed Management and Integrated Content Creation" on the menu.

    2. If you have used the Feed system before, see if a box "Merchant Supplied - Prezzy Box" is listed. If it is, click "create a new template" in the box. If there is no box, then click "Create Feed", select Prezzy Box from the menu and click the button and then click the link for the Template Editor.

    3. Use the link to launch the editor, this opens in a new window.

    4. Copy and paste the following HTML code into the box.

    PHP Code:
    <table border="0" bgcolor="#ffffff">
    <
    tr><td>

    %%
    TemplateRepeat%%

    <
    p><div align="center"><table border="0" width="650">
    <
    tr>
    <
    td width="100"><img src="%%ImageURL%%"></td>
    <
    td width="10"></td>
    <
    td align="left"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <
    tr>
    <
    td width="470" align="left"><a href="%%AffiliateURL%%" target="_blank"><strong>%%ProductName%%</strong></a></td>
    <
    td align="center" width="70"><a href="%%AffiliateURL%%" target="_blank"><strong>Buy Now</strong></a></td>
    </
    tr>
    </
    table><br><p align="justify">%%SummaryDescription%%</td>
    </
    tr>
    </
    table></div>

    %%
    TemplateRepeat%%

    </
    td></tr></table
    5. You can use the Instant Preview to take a look, you can then after a preview return to edit mode, make changes and go back to preview etc.

    6. Once your happy enter a name for the design at the top and then click "Create Template".

    7. Click the link to enter the Configuration and Preview Panel.

    8. This is where you build up all the options - such as sort order, products listed, number of products etc. to select the products click "Selection Options". You can either use the options to select from a categories using "Select Categories", or use "Product Selection" to pick products yourself, which is what I done above as I used Zak list.

At any stage you can click "Preview Template" from the top right to view your work in progress.

    9. Once you happy click "Delivery" and pick if you want to integrate it using JavaScript or iframe. Or if your going to use say PHP then just click the URL option.

    10. Click "URL/HTML Code" and copy the HTML code if you selected JavaScript or iframe in the last step, you can now paste it into any page you like now. If you selected URL in step 8, then you need to write a script to fetch and output the content from the URL, for example in PHP you just do include(url) where url is the URL we give you.

    11. To create more content using the same design later on, then just return to the start of the feed system and click "Configuration / Preview" from the top screen by the Template you created. You don't need to re-create the template.

You can get much more advance with our system, for example below is my same design as above, but this time I have asked for all products which are under £10 in price. You can integrate the system in more advance ways, for example you can easily create a whole site around the system.

An advance example is at http://www.feeddemo.co.uk/

Now for my example of products under £10.

    <script language=JavaScript src="http://feeds.paidonresults.net/1.0?pageno=1&affiliateid=1000&feedid=M10&template= A69&query=ProductPrice+<=+10&javascript=yes"></script>

If anyone needs help using Products On Request please contact us at support@paidonresults.com as its a little off-topic here.
