Hi there
It's true that you can go direct to the iTunes music store from your PC rather than via an affiliate link. But then, the same goes for most merchants, doesn't it? With that I mean that customers could go direct to a merchants website rather than via an affiliate link. It's about creating engaging content that will prompt customers to visit a store and purchase a product.
The content that will convert for you obviously depends on your website and demographics but some successful examples can be seen at:
http://www.fresh40.co.uk/chart/
http://www.nectar.com/dynamic/estores/retailer/itunes
http://www.rickygervais.com/
We've also seen success from email marketing campaigns, specifically in relation to a promotion where customers are prompted via an ad/promotion to visit and purchase from iTunes.
Often, customers don't even know the range of the products available so by promoting the gift certificates, Ricky Gervais show, exclusive albums, your own iMix or any other product that your user base is interested in, you can generate these sales and earn commission.
iTunes have put together a presentation on their program, which gives a pretty extensive overview of the program. This document can be downloaded from: http://images.apple.com/itunesaffili...iliate_doc.pdf
Feel free to contact me on the details below to discuss any opportunities and way of promoting iTunes successfully.
Best wishes,
Sabrina

The difference to going direct to a website is when I plug in my ipod it loads up the itunes music store straight away, I guess I wont get commission for these sales?
I take your point in respect to trying to get people to buy online, but once I have got you a new customer and the commission will I get commission for further sales what is the cookie length.

purple - cookie length is for a session
I posted that point here

and I agree with what you are saying. It's not quite like other merchants because most other merchants don't force you to install their own software if you want to buy from them.

Errrr no! There is a very very very big difference between itunes and "other merchants". When i plug my ipod in itunes comes up, for 99% of your customers the itunes store will be loaded with the built in itunes software of the machine. When you try and listen to something itunes will of in most cases set itself as the default player. from a marketing point of view this is just free branding, yes it might spark people to buy but all they will do is load up their itunes browser to do the process as it is the itunes software they need to load it onto their device, being that itunes doesnt run from the same cookies as the explorer (i am guessing) the affiliate would not make any commission at all.
Of course that wont change the program at all as you have an affiliate program and are looking to promote it but in my honest opinion this is a perfect example of what should be only CPM. Problem is you will always find novice affiliates or people that want the banners for their site cos it makes their site look more proffesional so anything i say wont make a bit of difference..........
Nothing to see here...
Interesting points made above.
The proof of the pudding is in the EPC. Sabrina, may we ask what the EPC is please?
